K-array Dragon KXT18P Upgrade Powers Tenax Nightclub
Florence, Italy – February 27, 2026 – Legendary nightclub Tenax has once again elevated its main room sound system, selecting the new Dragon KXT18P from K-array as the centerpiece of a comprehensive upgrade.
With a legacy spanning more than four decades, Tenax remains a benchmark venue in European club culture. Known for genre-defining lineups and a dancefloor that has hosted generations of artists and audiences, the Florence institution continues to invest in high-performance audio to preserve its reputation for sonic excellence.
For U.S. integrators and nightlife venues, this installation highlights the capabilities of the Dragon KXT18P in high-SPL, high-impact club environments where clarity and musicality are equally critical.
Transitioning to the Next Generation of Dragon
After years of reliable performance from K-array’s Firenze and Mugello line arrays, Tenax transitioned its main room to a point source configuration built around 12 Dragon KXT18P loudspeakers.
The system is deployed in clusters of three per corner, forming four horizontally arrayed groups that deliver:
Uniform coverage across the dancefloor
Exceptional headroom
High-output performance with controlled directivity
Supporting the Dragons are 16 Thunder KS4P I subwoofers. Twelve units are positioned along the DJ booth sides, with the remaining four located opposite the dancefloor to ensure consistent, powerful low-frequency reinforcement throughout the room.
The result is a balanced, high-energy sound system engineered to support both international touring acts and resident DJs.
Amplification and System Design
The main room system is powered by five Kommander KA208 amplifiers, each delivering eight channels at 2500 watts (4 ohms). With each KXT18P requiring two channels and each KS4P I utilizing one, the configuration uses a total of 40 amplifier channels to drive the complete system.
This setup provides the power and control required for extended, high-energy performances that define Tenax’s programming.
Stage monitoring was also refined, with one Dragon KXT18P paired with one Thunder KS3P I per side of the DJ booth, ensuring artists experience the same sonic precision and power delivered to the audience.
Mirko Carruba, audio technician at Tenax, comments: “K-array is the right solution for venues that require high SPL combined with precision and design integration. The system delivers impressive acoustic pressure while maintaining exceptional clarity and control across the spectrum. What stands out is the balance between physical impact and intelligibility — you can feel the energy in your body without sacrificing definition. It’s a versatile platform with a solution for virtually every application.”
High SPL Meets Precision
The Dragon KXT18P made its US debut during Miami Music Week 2025 and represents the largest and most powerful model in the Dragon point source series.
Key features include:
18” woofer
Dual coaxial compression drivers
144 dB maximum SPL
Frequency response down to 50 Hz
Advanced tri-axial component design
Durable birch plywood cabinet with optional exposed silver-finished horn
The Dragon’s ability to generate substantial near-field sound pressure while maintaining articulation makes it particularly well suited to nightclub applications where physical impact and intelligibility must coexist.
A Proven Platform for High-Performance Venues
Tenax’s second room, known as “The Tube,” continues to operate with its existing K-array system, including KS4P I subwoofers, Dragon KX12F coaxial point-source speakers, and Python KP52 I line array speakers used as delays.
According to the Tenax technical team, the system delivers exceptional acoustic pressure while preserving clarity and tonal balance — a combination essential to immersive nightlife environments.
For U.S. nightclub owners, consultants, and integrators, the Tenax installation demonstrates how the Dragon KXT18P platform performs in demanding, high-SPL venues where consistency, impact, and musical detail are non-negotiable.
