K-array expands Thunder range with new cardioid subwoofer shipping now

Italian manufacturer brings the Thunder-KSCARDIO412P to market following successful ISE preview.

Thunder-KSCARDIO412P

Florence (Italy), April 9, 2026 K-array has announced the U.S. availability of its new Thunder KSCARDIO412P, a passive cardioid subwoofer designed to deliver precise low-frequency control in a compact, single-cabinet format. First introduced at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2026 in Barcelona, the KSCARDIO412P offers a simplified approach to cardioid subwoofer deployment for professional audio applications.

For U.S. integrators, rental companies, and venue designers, the KSCARDIO412P addresses a long-standing challenge: achieving controlled low-frequency directivity without the complexity of traditional cardioid configurations.

Simplified Cardioid Performance for Modern Audio Systems

Cardioid subwoofer systems are widely used to reduce unwanted rear sound radiation, an essential requirement in live events, nightclubs, theaters, and installed audio environments. By minimizing low-frequency spill behind the system, engineers can improve stage monitoring, reduce feedback, and maintain greater overall clarity.

Traditionally, achieving this effect has required multiple subwoofer cabinets, external DSP processing, and precise delay configuration. The Thunder KSCARDIO412P streamlines this process by delivering true cardioid performance from a single enclosure, eliminating the need for additional signal processing or time alignment in standard setups.

High Output, Compact Design

At the core of the KSCARDIO412P are four 12-inch neodymium woofers, engineered to deliver powerful and controlled low-frequency output.

Key performance highlights include:

  • Frequency response down to 35 Hz

  • Maximum output of 138 dB SPL

  • Compact, single-cabinet cardioid design

  • Weight of 61.7 kg for easier transport and installation

The enclosure is constructed from durable birch plywood with a polyurea coating, ensuring long-term reliability in both touring and fixed installation environments. It is available in standard black or custom RAL finishes to support architectural integration.

Flexible Configuration for U.S. System Designers

The KSCARDIO412P supports both mono-amp and bi-amp operation, offering flexibility for a wide range of amplifier setups commonly used in U.S. installations and touring systems.

In bi-amp mode, the system achieves up to 20 dB of rear attenuation, enabling precise control of low-frequency directivity. The cardioid pattern remains consistent regardless of deployment orientation—horizontal or vertical—and whether used individually or in side-by-side configurations.

This flexibility makes the system particularly valuable for integrators working across varied venue types and layouts.

Designed for a Wide Range of Applications

The Thunder KSCARDIO412P is suitable for a broad spectrum of professional audio environments, including:

  • Live touring and concert production

  • Nightclubs and DJ venues

  • Theaters and performing arts spaces

  • Hospitality venues such as rooftops and beach clubs

  • Broadcast and event production

The system is fully compatible with K-array’s K-Framework3 software, enabling efficient system design, configuration, and optimization.

"Achieving true cardioid performance has historically meant complex setups, multiple cabinets, and a significant investment of time on site. With the KSCARDIO412P, we wanted to change that, giving engineers a single cabinet that delivers powerful, predictable low-end with genuine rear rejection, straight out of the box. The response we received at ISE confirmed that this is exactly the kind of solution the market has been asking for, and we're delighted to now be putting it into the hands of AV professionals worldwide,” said Lorenzo De Poi, brand manager at K-array.

The Thunder KSCARDIO412P is now available through K-array’s U.S. distribution network.
