Veteran front of house/recording engineer, Rick Camp

Front of house and recording engineer Rick Camp (Beyoncè, Dr. Dre, J-Lo, and many others) recently upgraded the Las Vegas studio for his Master Mix Live educational program by implementing a new Dolby Atmos 9.1.4 configuration utilizing K-array Kayman loudspeakers and supporting components.

Master Mix Live offers students a unique, semi-private engineering education to develop and strengthen the necessary skills to help in mastering modern audio workflows and gear. Camp was already employing an Atmos 7.1.4 platform in the studio, incorporating Kayman-KY102 loudspeakers before making the switch.

“I’m totally impressed with the accuracy of the K-array Kaymans,” Camp says. “That’s why I continued to go in that direction – I started using them two years ago when I first went to 7.1.4, and now that I’ve switched, I’m staying in this direction.”

Now, he has an additional grouping of KY102s for left-wide and right-wide surrounds as well as KY52s mounted on the ceiling, paired with KMT21 subwoofers and KA84 2U rack amplifiers to create the immersive sound environment. The expanded system allows students to experience an enhanced version of his lessons.

“I’m direct out of Pro Tools via MADI to the console, which leads to individual audio channels that pan to Dolby Atmos master rendering on a separate computer,” added Camp. “When changing to 9.1.4, I was able to change the brand of my height speakers to only include K-array products, and I added their subs.”
