K-array and Mojave Grey powered by Rivian

Following their Coachella performance, electronic duo Mojave Grey brought their signature desert dance sound to an intimate sunset gathering near Joshua Tree National Park on April 15th. Set in a remote location, the event was invitation only and fully off-grid, powered entirely by Rivian electric vehicles and sponsored by VOSS Water.

To handle audio in the outdoor environment, the production team used a K-array Pinnacle KR402 II system. The setup included one Thunder-KS3 I active subwoofer paired with a Thunder-KS3P I passive sub and four Python-KP102 I stainless steel line array elements. Each Python speaker contains twelve 3.15” neodymium magnet woofers, providing focused coverage that performed well in the open air landscape.

The Pinnacle system was selected not only for its sound characteristics but also for its portability and ease of deployment. The entire rig is compact and relatively lightweight, which made transport and setup easy in a location with no built-in infrastructure. With integrated amplification and straightforward cabling, the system was ready to go within minutes of arrival.

Power for the entire audio setup came from two Rivian R1S electric vehicles, whose onboard outlets supplied consistent current throughout the performance. The combination of efficient speakers and vehicle-sourced power meant that no diesel generators were needed, reducing both noise and environmental impact to the protected National Park space.

What might seem like a unique, one-off event was actually a great example of what the KR402 II does best. Whether it’s a pop-up stage in an urban environment or a quiet corner of the Mojave desert, this system is built for mobility, fast setup, and dependable performance in unpredictable spaces.

While ideal for off-grid scenarios like this, the KR402 II is not limited to outdoor or mobile events. Its clean design, precise coverage, and modular configuration make it equally well suited for concert halls, auditoriums, theaters, nightclubs, and lounges. From high-energy performances to refined acoustic spaces, the system adapts with ease to a wide variety of environments.

For those working in non-traditional or mobile setups, the Joshua Tree event offered a straightforward example of how the KR402 II handles the practical challenges of an off-grid environment.
