EDIKTED

When EDIKTED opened its flagship store in New York City, the space brought together two very different worlds: a modern, fashion-forward clothing brand and one of the city’s historic architectural landmarks. The store is located inside the historic Charles Scribner’s Sons Building, a Beaux-Arts landmark designed by Ernest Flagg and completed in 1913. Its interior features a 30-foot vaulted ceiling, balconies, ornamental plasterwork, cast-iron details, and highly reflective surfaces.

The challenge for ROOTECH INC. was to create a sound system that matched the energy of EDIKTED’s brand without competing with the architecture. The system also needed to work beyond everyday retail, to support product launches, special events, and DJ performances across the two-level space.

ROOTECH designed a distributed, multi-zone K-array system that could deliver music throughout the store while remaining visually integrated with its surroundings. Ten K-array Vyper-KV102W II slim line-array loudspeakers provide the primary sound across the main sales areas, with twelve KGEAR GH4W compact loudspeakers handling targeted secondary areas.

Six Rumble-KU210W subwoofers are distributed throughout the store, providing the low end while avoiding excessive bass concentration in any single area. The distribution also allows the system to maintain a more even listening experience across the different spaces.

The Vyper-KV102W II was particularly well suited to the architecture. Its ultra-slim profile and controlled vertical dispersion allow the system to direct sound toward the customer areas while reducing unnecessary energy toward the vaulted ceiling and reflective surfaces. Finished in white, the loudspeakers integrate naturally with the interior rather than competing with it.

The system is powered and processed by a single K-array Kommander-KA208 eight-channel amplifier with integrated DSP. The KA208 manages the different loudspeakers and zones from one centralized platform, with dedicated K-array presets, crossover settings, equalization, protection limiting, and zone-level balancing.

During commissioning, ROOTECH optimized the gain structure, verified wiring and polarity, balanced the zones, aligned the loudspeakers and subwoofers, and tuned the system through listening tests throughout the store. The result is a system that can be easily managed for everyday operation while providing the flexibility needed for events and performances.

Rami Romano, architect and interior designer at Romano Rami, highlighted the balance achieved by the project:

“Integrating a powerful sound system into such a historic and architecturally significant space required a solution that would respect the design. ROOTECH and K-array achieved strong, consistent sound coverage while keeping the equipment visually discreet and in harmony with the landmark interior.”

EDIKTED was extremely pleased with the finished system - from everyday retail operation to DJ performances and special events, the technology does its job without asking the building to give up any of its character.
